College of Liberal Arts

Leticia Madrigal-Tapia — a third-year CSU student in the College of Liberal Arts majoring in political science — has been selected to receive the Voyager Scholarship, formally known as the Obama-Chesky Scholarship for Public Service. Madrigal-Tapia is part of the scholarship’s second cohort and is the first student from CSU to earn this prestigious honor. The scholarship includes up to $50,000 in financial aid as well as a $10,000 stipend and free Airbnb housing to pursue a summer work-travel experience between the junior and senior year of college. Additionally, students are invited each fall to an annual summit to help define and inspire their public service journey.

College of Natural Sciences

Assistant Professors in the Department of Computer Science Francisco R. Ortega and Vinayak Prabhu, have been awarded a combined total of $1.13 million from the prestigious National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program. The CAREER Award recognizes early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. The award funds a five-year research project with an educational component and supports faculty in building a firm career foundation.

Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering

Tony Maciejewski, professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Colorado State University, has received the 2023 Distinguished Educator Award from the ECE Division of the American Society for Engineering Education. The award is given annually to an individual for significant contributions to ECE education. Maciejewski, former ECE department head, received the honor for his leadership of CSU’s Revolutionizing Engineering Department grant from the National Science Foundation.
