Many people returned to campus on Aug. 24, teaching, learning, researching, and creating. That’s true for the visual and performing arts as well. Below are some of the offerings.
University Center for the Arts
School of Music, Theatre, and Dance
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance has inspired, uplifted, and connected the community by sharing newly recorded living room concerts, videos from the archive, and a special performance of the CSU Alma Mater recorded for spring graduation. “This Week at the UCA ONLINE” continues this fall with events presented by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. Family, friends, and arts patrons can access live-streamed and/or on-demand performances by buying tickets at csuartstickets.com.

On-demand content from CSU Bands, CSU Dance, and CSU’s new assistant professor of bassoon, Cayla Bellamy, will be included.

The Gregory Allicar Museum of Art
The University’s art museum is now open to visitors in the CSU community, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. All visits require a reservation made via a link on its visit page, which also includes additional information about other health and safety measures.
As of Sept. 12, the museum will be open to the public on weekends as well, on
Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sundays, 1–5 p.m.
Those who can’t make it to the museum in person can visit its online gallery and programs.
There you’ll find videos and the first of the museum’s new virtual 3D galleries (the first by Binh Danh). More online and virtual programming is coming this semester.
Avenir Museum of Design and Merchandising
The Avenir Museum of Design and Merchandising, which is housed in the University Center for the Arts, is closed for public visitation in Fall 2020. Stay tuned for more information about its upcoming virtual exhibit.
ACT Human Rights Film Festival
Online, Oct. 1-10
ACT rescheduled its fifth annual film festival (held April 2020) for Oct. 1-10. Join online for more than 20 films, access to filmmakers, and more. Films are available to watch from anywhere in the United States. Check out the 2020 film selections and plan for your virtual festival experience.
Art galleries in the Visual Arts Building
Housed within the Visual Arts Building, there are five galleries available to view art installations and exhibitions.
At this time the Hatton Gallery will be open and available to visitors.
Creative Writing Reading Series
For going on three decades now, the Creative Writing Reading Series has welcomed distinguished literary voices to share their work and their writing journeys with the CSU community and greater Northern Colorado area. In addition to giving a public reading, visiting writers take part in an audience Q&A, a book-signing, class visits and other outreach – all free and open to the public.
With the generous support of the English department, College of Liberal Arts, the Lilla B. Morgan Memorial Endowment and other contributors, the series has featured Pulitzer Prize winners, U.S. poets laureate, National Book Critics Circle Award winners, National Book Award finalists, NAACP Image Award nominees, and recognized voices in young adult literature.
This year — due to gathering restrictions related to COVID-19 — many readings will be live-streamed via Zoom.
Although certainly different than in-person events, Zoom readings offer their own kind intimacy – an up-close-and-personal environment in which an audience can see writers in their natural habitats – at their actual writing desks and in the spaces where their books came into being. That’s a special experience. And if you’re lucky, you might even get to see their cats or dogs, which is always nice, too.
On the audience end, a Zoom reading allows you to attend from the comfort of your own living room. All you have to do is click the link, sit back, and enjoy the wonderful stories, poems and essays.
